Has anyone tried removing the internal wifi card and using a common PCMCIA wifi card instead?

And if so... did it remedy the problem (no wifi, no Verizon cards under the right wrist pad)?

Re: I have both a 5400rpm 80GB Hitachi and a 7200rpm 80GB

The average MB-per-second transfer rate of the 5400rpm dirve was 34MB. The 7200rpm drive increased that by a third to 45MB. I got the same results whether the drives were in the Media Bay or the internal bay. Finally! Someone actually tested the HD in the Media Bay. Glad to hear there's no percepti...

Wally, Yeah, that's it. In my own experience, I took the 5400 RPM Travelstar (ATA, not the newer SATA drives) in my Dell Latitude D600and moved it to the CD-ROM "Media Bay" with an HD caddy from eBay. I bench marked the same HD in the normal location vs. the "Media Bay" slot using HD Tune (link) . I...

Wally,

Can you tell if there is a performance hit by installing a HD in the Ultrabay (vs. in the normal spot under the right palm rest)?

smvp6459,

Are you able to measure the palm rest surface temperatures (not internal) with an non-contact thermometer while using this A/B/G tweak?

When I first bought a T60, I also noticed HD noise as well. It was a gentle, constant "whooshing" sound on all the time. I had Lenovo send me a replacement drive of a different brand. No luck. Still whoosh-y. At the same time, I installed a new Hitachi Travelstar 5K-series. Fujitsu (originally shipp...

Along those lines: Would an HD in the Ultrabay HDD adapter be the same or slower than the main HD in a T60?

Couldn't you just hit one of the F-keys at bootup to select a drive? Of course, this is assuming you've set the Ultrabay HD in BIOS in the boot sequence (internal HD, ultrabay HD, floppy, whatever.) And if you could boot off the Ultrabay HD: Is there a speed penalty if running off the Ultrabay HD, a...

I read somewhere the bus speed (?) for hard drives inserted into the Ultrabay adapter isn't quite the same as the main SATA one.

True?

So, a SATA drive in the Ultrabay is "slower" than an identical SATA drive in the main bay? Or is the difference negligible?

Is there a difference in bus speed if you install the same HD from under the palm rest over to the Ultrabay?

I am a bit confused with all this talk about the wireless card creating heat issues. The hard drive is directly under the plam rest which is creating the heat issue so why is it that everyone keeps talking about other items creating the problem? I can't imagine this ever being fixed unless they sim...

Thanks again, CyberDude.

Here's to hoping someone can take a reading on a palm rest, plugged & unplugged.

I need to lend someone my IR thermometer... or someone needs to lend me their X60s for.. uh, research!

Thanks, CyberDude.

Is your guesstimate based on the plugged in or unplugged?

Are you other X60s owners getting about the same palm rest surface temps?

Been considering an X60s.

Has anyone measured the actual palmrest SURFACE temperature with an IR thermometer? I'd like to know.
