Hi, I want to upgrade the memory on my T42 2373-3VU. I would like to buy two 1 GB sticks of RAM. If you have any available, post up! If nothing comes available then I'll buy new before the end of the month.
I am located in Maryland USA.
Thanks!

I see the 2.10 GHz SL7V3 is the fastest option for my machine and, according to Google, would cost about $230. I currently have 1 GB of RAM installed (2 x 512 MB). I would have to replace both the internal slot and external slot with 1 GB sticks, which would cost about $170 from Crucial.com. I do mo...

Upgrading Processor
I have a 1.7GHz Pentium M processor in my T42. I intentionally stepped back from the bleeding edge when I got the machine in 2004 to save some money with the mentality that I could upgrade in the future at a lower cost. Did I make the right assumption? How difficult is it to swap processors? Where c...

Have the displays improved?
I have an IBM-era ThinkPad T42. It has the 14" 1400x1050 screen. The screen has been replaced once, in May 2007 by IBM Australia, under warranty. The screen has always sucked a little. The colors are not as rich as my Dell 1901FP desktop LCD. On battery power, the brightness is lacking and the visib...

Thanks for the replies. My warranty runs out in September and I have an international flight home between now and then. I just asked them to repair the machine with the DC plug still loose at this point. When I return home, I'll send the machine into the USA depot for one last "warranty polish up" a...

Warranty: Arguing Out of Scope Exclusions?
Hi - recently sent my T42 in for depot service. They replaced a bunch of parts - the LCD, keyboard, palmrest, hard drive and some others - but said that my loose/broken DC-in plug was an out-of-scope repair and I would have to pay to have it repaired. It will take a "Miscellaneous Parts Kit," 91P868...

I ended up buying two parts. First, I bought the SFBags/WaterField SleeveCase with D-rings (no strap, I have extras), horizontal orientation and a flap. I don't plan on using it as a stand-alone bag but I got the minimum options to do so in the future if I want. I also picked up a sling bag from REI...

Sling bags that can accomodate a ThinkPad (DANGER: Pics lol)
Hi, does anyone have a recommendation on a sling bag that can accomodate a ThinkPad T-Series 14" model? SFbags lists the dimensions as 12.2"x10.0"x1.2". Tom Binh has a sweet sling bag but they list the dimensions of the built-in laptop sleeve as just a tad too small. At this point I think the North ...

Display Rotation
I have a 2373-3VU T42. I run a dual-head display on a Dell 1901FP 19" LCD. I've discovered that the display will swivel into portrait mode. Does the ThinkPad support display rotation on the external screen?
Thanks -Ben

More ThinkPads than I ever want to see in my life...
Until I go back to college, I've taken on a contract job at a nearby IT firm that markets to the public sector. The contract I'm working on is to deploy 10,000 IBM ThinkPad R-Series notebooks to a public school system within a month. The schedule is very tight and the scale of the project is ludicro...

Machine Going In For Warranty Service
My T42 is going into the IBM EZ Serv Depot for warranty service on Thursday morning. When I move or tilt or jar the machine, the screen (both of them, since I'm running dual-head on the VGA-out port) will turn off (no signal, not just black) and the computer stalls. I hesitate to say it "shuts down,...

Pentium M Speed Restrictions
Why does my computer always run at either 300 MHz (on super power saving mode) or 600 MHz (on high system performance mode)? Its a Pentium M 735 / 1.7GHz... I've seen the CPU pegged at 100% in the Windows Task Manager / Performance screen and I've checked My Comupter properties at the same time and ...

IBM Applications Use Up a Lot of Processing Power
I've noticed that the pre-installed IBM software on my computer takes up a lot of CPU time. Is this normal? I've got a T42 with a 1.7GHz Dothan that's usually throttled back (automatically) to 600MHz. QCTASK.exe, for example, recently took up 100% processing power for over a minute while the compute...

Are you sure that's now how its supposed to look? Did your old computer have Win XP Pro? That looks like the proper Win XP Pro startup screen to me... the background isn't supposed to be monotone. Is it still uneven like that even when you're doing something like browsing the net or typing a Word do...

I noticed the same thing today and I did a Google search on the subject. If you're on battery, its probably a sure thing that its going to have a sliding processing speed....

23733VU Education Model: "End-of-Life"
I see the 2373-3VU on IBM.com's education section for a very nice price (about 31% off!). Thing is... why's it so cheap? And when I click on "Customize," it says "This product is nearing end-of-life and is no longer available." Anyone have news for me? Any reason not to buy a Pentium 735 1.7ghz / 51...
