Re: Wireless-N upgrade

Thanks for that, incidentally, I already run AES only because Apple products in my household seem to poop their pants when given the option between TKIP and AES.

Re: Wireless-N upgrade

The performance gains depend on whether the device is using 20MHz channels or 40MHz channels. The Intel 4965AGN card supports 802.11n standard 40MHz channels only in the 5GHz spectrum in order to minimize negative impact to legacy devices/networks. So if the sevice can "see" 801.11g transmitters wi...

Re: Wireless-N upgrade

Thanks for the reply, out of curiosity, does anyone know what performance gains, if any I will get by upgrading to wireless N with 2 antennae?

Re: Wireless-N upgrade

Can anyone tell me about the 3rd wire situation? Do I just need to buy a certain wire and route it the same way the other 2 are? Sorry for my naivety, this is the first time I've ventured into the whole wireless upgrade arena.

Wireless-N upgrade

I'm an occasional reader and posted some a couple of years back. I received good advice and help then, so I figured you guys might be able to help me again. I did a search and could not find anything useful due to the fact that my search terms were too common. I have an X61s (type: 7668CTO) with an ...

I agree with the comments about not being worth it to pay $475. I looked up my chip, and tried to find one online, but they seemed to cost more than Lenovo would charge to fix it. I'm not afraid of opening up the computer, but I'm thinking I might sell it as-is, tell them that they can put in a pcmc...

USB Ports broken

My T42p suddenly died today, I restarted it and USB doesn't work, not in Windows, Ubuntu, or via the BIOS (trying to boot from a USB drive). I called customer support; they informed me that my computer was out of warranty and that I needed a new system board, and that this would cost me a minimum of...

I'm not sure how to do it, but I have tried before, and Microsoft really makes it hard to do. I have read tutorials that claim to allow you to do it, but I have not gotten any of them to work. Good luck and please post if you figure out how to do it; I'd be interested in doing that as well.

DVD Software in Backup CDs

is the DVD software in there? if so, is there any way I can extract it without running a recovery? - I dont need to format, but I installed a "generic" winxp and would like to get that free dvd decoding software that came with the t42  thanks for your help.

yea, its a fairly common problem. people recomend putting business cards or other pieces of paper under there, some say you can stretch up a little peg on the keyboard itself. or you can try to get a thai keyboard. dunno what else to say, hopefully that answers enough

Sloooow Startup

I am having very very slow startups on my T42. I have it plugged into the wall (and battery maximizer set to full performance when its plugged in). I have XP Pro w/ SP2, and the IBM utilities I'm running are Access Connections, Active Protection, and Battery Maximizer. I know that active protection ...

Firewire/IEEE 1394

I was wondering if there were any solutions other than a PC card for getting firewire on my our T42 (2378 EZU) I'm looking at the port replicators/docking stations on IBM's site and didnt see anything about firewire, but thought maybe it was overlooked. anyone know anything i dont?

thanks,
John
