updating bios

Just updated last night the BIOS for my T60p. I did go through ThinkVantage but I found that I had to update the BIOS as a single item. Also, on my system a dialog box pops up halfway through the installation process asking you if you want to upgrade your BIOS or change your model number. If I selec...

military superiority = high standard of living?

Off topic, but I personally take little comfort in our status as the world's sole military superpower. During the Cold War, the USSR was a military superpower BECAUSE they virtually ignored the consumer sector. What protects us is our democracy (which enables us to vote out politicians who don't pro...

I deleted Diskeeper Lite because I preferred just to use the Windows defrag. I also use XP Pro and the defragmenter is under "accessories" and "system tools." My needs are modest so it works fine.

It can't hurt to call up and ask... :) A number of pp's have reported that if you return a TP unopened for a unit higher in price (which yours would be with upgrades) they have not been charged the 15% restocking fee. Since the warranty goes with the machine and not the owner, I am not sure whether ...

Search the lenovo/IBM forum on notebookreviews.com. There was a thread recently about this. If I remember correctly, the keyboard parts number for the T60 and T61 ARE different, but with the same three manufacturers (alps, NMB, and chicony) The remaining question is 'Are the keyboards the same??" If...

I wouldn't despair quite yet. Your delayed ship date is most likely NOT due to your switch in payment, but a reflection of Lenovo's difficulty in meeting demand for the T61s (and several supply issues I believe). Lots of people have been receiving August ship dates in the past week. Even more positi...

The word "wide" probably misleads people into believing widescreens are larger than 4:3 screens with the same diagonal length. Perhaps widescreens should be called "shortscreens" instead to prevent such confusion.

I have a nearly new T60 with a flexview screen and I agree that the screen (rated at 200 nits) is not the brightest. However, it is widely recognized as the best screen <19" for color reproduction. The technology used in IPS (versus TN) lcd panels allows colors to be reproduced "true." In other word...

The IPS screens in the T60 and T60p are exactly the same. I think the only significant difference between these laptops is the graphics card. Patrick_Bateman -- The 15" flexview screens being offered now ARE true flexview IPS panels. Beauty is in the eye.... seriously, for many users I think the widescreens would be just fine, especially as I've heard they've improved the viewing angles significantly. Where the IPS panel has a unique advantage is in color reproduction. Yes, other screens can look very pretty and some of the ultr...

extended warranty with accident protection

I agree with the PP's about the profitability of extended warranties and for that reason I don't usually buy them. But I went for 3-year accident protection with my new T60 (which extends the warranty as well). I will be using this notebook on the road a lot and what I was most concerned about were ...

I just go into the control panel and disable the touchpad, or you have the option of making it a scroll device only. I second this suggestion. I disabled my touchpad the day I received my new T60 and have barely noticed it since. Fortunately, it lies fairly flush with the palmrest (aside from the b...

I have had this t60 for about 5 months and the s is already rubbing off and the keys are not registering fully 100%. Also the right trackpad button seems to be 'off' - hard to place why - fails to register 30% of the time. Call them up and tell them your keyboard is bad. They will send you another ...

Warranties

On the subject of warranties, I'd definitely consider the accident protection -- particularly if you're going to be carrying the computer around campus on a daily basis. Hard bumps (if not actual drops) are almost inevitable and there is always a risk of spills. Thinkpads are extremely well-built, b...
