Re: FS T61 Intel GPU SXGA 42W7648 MB Penryn Barebones System
You can run a Penryn chip in it but with a factory bios it will display a thermal sensing error because the board cannot read the Penryn chips more advanced digital temp sensor. The middleton bios doesn't add this ability, it only suppresses the warning. Performance wise they are equal, but it's no...

A matching T61 14.1" 4:3 native PENRYN motherboard with Intel Gfx would have P/N 42W7872 This item being offered is identified specifically as 42W7648 , with Penryn compatibility via the Middleton BIOS, with Intel Gfx etc. Any reasons to want a bone stock native Penryn that overcomes a 4 times the ...

Re: FS T61 Intel GPU SXGA 42W7648 MB Penryn Barebones System
Just so it's clear, this is NOT a Penryn board... though as the seller mentions, Middleton's BIOS will enable the use of a Penryn chip in this board. There is some debate on whether this is a good idea... I can tell you that I am running a T9300 Penryn chip in a 42W7648 without issue... still I thi...

Re: yoga pro 2 vs thinkpad yoga screen and other considerati
I looked at the Yoga Pro 2 at a Best Buy after playing with a friends Thinkpad Yoga. The Thinkpad is much better IMO. Its build is better, it really feels solid. I was excited about seeing the Yoga Pro 2 screen. But frankly I did not like it, and I am a IPS screen junkie. For whatever reason I thoug...

Nice deal....was looking at ebay and they want 10 dollars just for the little rubber feets. I ended up not buying the machine that would need them. Generic adapter could be OEM manufacturer too. You think the screen is dead, 1/3 dead that is, or is it the signal from the messed up motherboard. thanks.

I have this same exact effect, and I can essentially completely work around it, with Thinkpad Fan Control utility. I can stay under 55C for a good chunk of time, without the fan running at all. Have the fan set to the lowest setting, "1" and lowest rate about 2300 rpm. You will barely be able to hea...

Agree that the Ipad is still not a complete solution, however a friend has a pretty nice case/keyboard thing, which makes it pretty close for a lot of people. Yes the new Ipad 3 is gong to be quite tempting, they already makes some very nice little keyboard cases which essentially make it a laptop.....just missing the trackpoint. I've owned several 6363 tablets and *all* of them had AFFS panels... I have had two pen only XGA screens both of which were Samsung PVA panels, definitely not TN, but also not AFFS. Re: Wtd: X61 Tablet fan. 1 or 2 of them. Zero noise. Ok if used.
Have you tried using TP fan control and leaving it set to setting 1 in the manual option. YMMV and IMO The noise of the fan seems to be from acceleration and deceleration, where it gets a warbal wobble as the motor torques and untorques the fan. The bios setting seems to have lots of hunting. The LP...

You will probably want an IPS monitor if you want to match the Flexview. You may be perfectly happy with a PVA though. The best you can do in UXGA is the NEC 2090uxi. Its also called a Lacie 320. (though Lacie has a problem with not updating model numbers, you have to look at the base to know the co...

Sometimes I really wonder, what makes people to make so much fuss about the aspect ratio of their laptop's panel.[/quote] It's actually more a matter of missing vertical pixels versus pointlessly inflated horizontal pixels than just the ratio in itself. What people have grown used to refer to as "w...
