Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hello my fellow thinkhackers, I'm just reporting that I was able to install OS X 10.9.1 with Madara-san's kext pack v2 and Sieglind's dviDSDT on my R61i and it's working * almost * fine. Well, good job done here, guys - I'd like to thank you all :) Unfortunately, I'm still having couple problems wit...

Re: Thinkpadders: What Smartphone do you prefer?
I'm currently using HTC HD2 with Android 4.1 (CM10 kang) on it
This phone is quite old now, but (so far) never failed at me. It also feed all my needs (I don't play games on phone), so I see no point in getting rid of it (in near future).

Re: Should I send the T61 back because of the faulty gfx chip?
I agree, I would keep it, too.
My R61 is also affected by Nvidia chip issue, but I don't much care about it - It didn't fail until now, so I have no evidences that it possibly can fail in future.
Even if it do so, my plan is simple - I will just bake it and sell cheap

Re: New ThinkPad's were unacceptable so I've made one myself
I really enjoyed your story, because I did almost the same with my R61i :) Only thing left is to decide which device would be more usefull in the ultrabay (DVD-RW, 2nd Battery or 2nd hard drive). I'd go with 2nd hard drive in ultrabay. Since you have already SSD, I'd put here 500 GB or even bigger H...

It's cheaper, faster and more reliable (for me) to buy another 2 TB drive than store files on cloud.

In my R61 with Nvidia GPU I can't get below 19.5W (WiFi on, screen @ 30%, powersave CPU governor) = ~3.1h on 9 cell batt = not that bad.

Hah, I'm curious too.
My R61i is equipped with Nvidia's faulty GPU, so it's definatly not about integrated graphics.

Make a ramdisk (tmpfs if you are using Linux) and move browser cache on to it.
It will be even faster than SSD

Re: X60s and problem playing 1080p
The case is the bitrate of movie. My old lappy with dual core 1.73ghz and X3100 couldn't play smooth 1080p with bitrate around 8-10k, coded with x264 and with DTS audio in any circumstances. DXVA - fail, no even video, CoreAVC - a/v out of synth, VLC - same as above, etc. Even gl acceleration under ...

Re: X60s and problem playing 1080p
With such CPU low usage while playing 1080p is *NOT* possible. And no, integrated GPU is too weak to take over acceleration, so I think you got wrong movie or misunderstood it's parameters (no offence ofc :)). It would be nice if you could prove your statement - get ~12GB movie encoded in x264 with ...

For DXVA playback you need MPC-HC. Read about it here: http://imouto.my/watching-h264-videos-using-dxva/
But don't be disappointed if it won't work - I doubt it will.

After some reading about incompatibility of screens/keyboards connectors between different brands, I've came to same conclusion, as all of you suggested: effect won't be worth effort. I will probably buy some old hardware (X2x series maybe, as they are thin and cheap) and use console-only Linux (mor...

Re: Last built like a tank (and THIN) X series ThinkPad?
$300? Not near Poland. 400$ here is minimum + add cost of new battery, HDD and RAM (another 200$?). Yes, I could ship it from different country, but it would create a big mess (shipping, taxes, new keyboard) that is probably not worth 100$. I don't find Atom CPU's slow - they can play 720p videos (a...

Just FYI, that PIII 800 will not fit in a 600X. You need a PIII 800 that is mounted on an MMC-2 board. Those are relatively rare. The PIII 850MHz on an MMC-2 is even more rare. That is where the maximum of 850MHz comes from: there were lots of PIII chips made that were faster than 850MHz, but a 600...

I have no idea how it was 20 years ago, as I'm 18. Is brain really too little? IMO anti-viruses are targeted for peoples, who can't fight with viruses by themselves. I'm checking everything when doing maintance for machines (logs etc.) so I still can't believe that I must have anti-virus on Windows ...
