FS: 3 X61s with SXGA+ and LED backlighting
I have three X61s with LED-backlit SXGA+ screens for sale. 1. 1.8ghz motherboard, LED backlight from xiphmont. Until recently this was my daily driver. The only flaw is that I can't get the SD card slot to work. WLAN is an Intel 622anhmw. Price ~200 euros depending on the memory, battery, and/or sd...

Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos
It fits but you may end up with some areas that are too tight, which affects the brightness there, similar to what happens when the lid is twisted. Which bugged me and I ended trimming the frame.

Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos
As far as I know the antenna just needs the base that sits on the screen's top edge, and the U-shaped antenna attached to it. Everything else can be removed (jewellery clippers work well). The metal frame is too deep because in the tablet it needs to make space for the digitizer. With the right tool...

Re: X61s issue - LVDS, LEDs, flaring dots
It shouldn't be necessary to resolder the pins. You can remove them from male plug housing - they are held in with tiny plastic catches that you need to lift with a knife or something - then you reorder the wires and slot the pins back in. http://thinkwiki.de/(X6x)_SXGA%2B-Display_nachr%C3%BCsten ha...

Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos
That said, the bracket plays a part in holding the screen together, and messing with it is deeper screen surgery than most people will want to mess with. For sure - and it's a barrier to dust. Removing it wasn't the plan but a shim got stuck and in my attempts to remove it I twisted the bracket... ...

Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos
For what it's worth... I tried the mod in two SXGA+ screens using side-emitting strips from iCCFL and was very disappointed because of the visible LED pattern and uneven backlighting. Yesterday I attempted to mend things by repositioning the strips, and ended up completely removing the backlight bra...

Kind of you to offer!
But, after spending some time with the X61 and its new screen, I'm starting to think that it would be a better investment to install an FHD screen in my X230, somehow. I'm used to its wider keyboard now and going back to the X61 is proving harder than I anticipated

WTB: X61 (or just base / motherboard) with T8300 or T9300
Hello everyone, I am looking for an X61 with one of the faster processors - T8300 or T9300 - to go with a modded SXGA+ screen. All I actually need is the motherboard. There are a couple on eBay but a bit too pricey for me. Please pm if you have one you'd like to sell and don't mind sending it to Bel...

I had the same problem and fixed it by installing Lenovo settings and changing the privacy setting on the camera.
But it sounds like your already have the app - could it be the wrong version?

Pointer drift on external thinkpad keyboards
Hello all, I have a bluetooth Thinkpad keyboard which I use when the laptop itself is docked and attached to a second screen. It suffers from awful pointer drift and I was wondering if anyone had had the same experience and found a solution and if the problem is confined to the bluetooth version (so...

Re: The ThinkPad is Dead, Long Live..... ?
Sorry, that was badly expressed. The problem isn't switching layout but the fact that the layouts I have to use are ISO friendly - French and Portuguese anyway. So it makes more sense for me to get used to the UK layout. Small left shift is not a problem for me, I still overuse it compared to the ri...

Re: The ThinkPad is Dead, Long Live..... ?
The US layout (which is also used in other countries, incidentally, Israel) has the long Left Shift and the long, single-line Enter. UK/EU layouts change to a two-row, vertical reverse-L shaped Enter, shorten the Left Shift key to add another backslash key, and make a few extra changes. I hate this...

Re: The ThinkPad is Dead, Long Live..... ?
As a touch-typist, the keyboard is extremely to me, and I too hate British keyboards. But I consider keyboard layout and the size/shape of individual keys to be part of the design, not quality. To me, "quality" refers to material, fit and finish, durability, sturdiness, screen quality (contrast, co...

Re: x61t screen in x61
Yes, it's possible. The improved resolution makes an X61 still worth using, IMO, though extra memory and replacement batteries are getting quite expensive. But... removing the glue is a horrible job and success is not guaranteed. You might end up with a broken screen or a working but-not-quite-perfe...

WTB: 4 / 8 cell battery for X61(s) - or reliable eBay seller
Good morning all, I'm looking for a genuine battery in good condition (recent manufacture, low cycle count, high capacity) for my X61s - I could use both a 4 cell or an 8 cell. If you have one to sell please let me know by pm. Alternatively, if anyone can recommend an eBay seller they've recently bo...

Re: X60s LCD panel types
The lid assemblies are interchangeable, the only difference being thickness (and strength, IMO). On the other hand, everything *inside* the assemblies is different except the inverter; even the wireless aerials are slightly different. If you are lucky you can find the parts cheap on eBay (lid, hinge...

If I understood correctly, RBS was cleaning up goo that had leaked out from between the LCD and the protective plastic sheet. The other people were removing the plastic layer and *all* the goo underneath.

Re: X60s LCD panel types
I've tried putting a normal panel into an ultralight lid it doesn't work very well. It's not just the size of the panel, the image is in a different position relative to the frame and it will be partly obscured. Cutting the frame to fit will just weaken it and open a big hole for dust etc. to attack...

Re: X60s LCD panel types
A "top" cable will indeed work: the pinout is the same, only the position is different. Unfortunately, the "bottom" connectors are for ultralight panels, which are not only lighter but also slightly smaller than normal ones. Judging from the connector position your panel isn't an ultralight one and ...

Re: X61 SXGA+ mod cable
The cable is probably damaged. Since the inverter LEDs don't light up it's likely that the damage is between the motherboard connector and the cable switch: it's the first branch after the motherboard connector and it's easy to tear - being small, awkward, apparently pointless and attached to a rein...

Pen sensitivity working with Win 7 on X60T or X61T?
Could anyone confirm if they have an X61T or X60T running Windows 7 and working pen sensitivity in non-MS applications? I can't get it to work in Photoshop, ArtRage, or Gimp, but it works nicely in OneNote.

Re: X61 SXGA+ mod cable
The plastic connector is two parts: the pin housing (which goes inside the socket), and a handle half grips the cable (and stays outside the socket). The ears on either side are what grip the cable most strongly. In this picture you can see the bottom face of the connector (well, as similar one) and...
