Just 3 weeks ago I used T40 R&R disk set (7 Cds in all). It successfully restored the original factory set of Win XP Pro and all the Thinkpad functions. Data on partitions D, E and F remained untouched

The HDD in a friend's T42 needs to be replaced. It has come out about 1/4" and will not budge further.
I'm afraid to use too much force and damage something else. Any suggestions?
From the pattern of bad sectors it appears that unit was dropped.
I have exchanged HDD in other Tx without problems.
