I read all the reviews I could find. Members here used to give each other their opinions and findings when asked on specific
models, for example the downside of the T-43 & shortcomings of the classic T-61. I guess I assumed that was still
the case. Thank you anyway. I'll look elsewhere from now on.

Re: Suggestions for 2012 Win 7 14" Multimedia laptop?
Ever heard of ad hominem or strawman argument? What about my post supports your assumption that I am not independently wealthy? What is "rich people"? The word itself is the great modern stereotype programmed into our culture by politicians. There is no such person as "rich people", no such monolith...

Re: Suggestions for 2012 Win 7 14" Multimedia laptop?
Thank you for the replies. HDMI works fine under windows but I hate windows and I have since Windows 3.1. I only use it when I have absolutely no other choose. I also hate media player boxes like AppleTV and Roku. Like the Microsoft cartel, I see the media box makers as robber barons, corporations t...

Re: What Programs/Distribution do you use?
I have had good results running different versions of Ubuntu, Puppy, Fatdog, and my favorite the past three years LinuxMint. Currently, I run LinuxMint 13 maya (mate) and LinuxMint maya (KDE) in an AMD Turion II Edge. I've tried Ultimate Edition 3.4 and 3.5 with good results. I've tried a lot of Lin...

Re: Connect to TV
Just a thought. You can buy a two to three year old used 27" to 32" LCD or Plasma TV pretty cheap. People want 50" or larger, 3D (even if they'll never use it), and other newer bells and whistles. Plus manufacturing improvements are bringing down the prices all this year. A used, "old" tech modern T...

Hello, I'm trying to get my Thinkpad Edge 019923U (14" AMD 2.3Ghz Turion II P520) to stream via HDMI to a large screen TV. It otherwise works well under LinuxMint 13 Maya (Ubuntu, Puppy, & Ultimate Edition 3.4 & 3.5) It processes and plays XBMC and other video well & it streams video well through HD...

Suggestions for 2012 Win 7 14" Multimedia laptop?
I have a 14" Edge 019923U with 2.3Mhz dual core AMD Turion that plays and streams video well. except I cannot get audio when I use HDMI, under LinuxMint, Ultimate Edition or Ubuntu. I suspect the issue is related to the AMD audio hardware. I'm looking to upgrade to a 2012 Windows 7 Lenovo 14". I wan...

Two Recent Good Lenovo USA Support Stories
One key started going bad on my then 8 month old Lenovo Edge. It took five minutes to get support. No problem getting a new keyboard shipped to me. Entire call took less than 8 minutes. I had the keyboard in two days just as they estimated. A month later I had a Linux distro new version install go b...

Re: Using function keys without resorting to the fn key?
At first I didn't mind Lenovo's elimination of normal function keys. I now considered it a significant design flaw of an otherwise excellent chiclet laptop keyboard. The arrangement may be OK if one assumes everyone wants and uses Windows. The arrangement cripples Linux power users, since F keys are...

Actually, three fake apple stores have been reported. Nothing new about this. COMMUNIST China (more accurately today Corporate Fascist China) and its traditional Chinese cultural sphere nations (N. Help. I thought I knew my way around Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 from my Thinkpads until I got my hands on my grandson's new Acer netbook. It ships with a goofy desktop font. Most commands have a -p flag or some similar kind that waits for user input before outputting more onto the screen. Re: UBUNTU 11.04 WARNING!
[/quote] I'm actually recommending users to go for Xubuntu. I've tried both Ubuntu 10.10 and Xubuntu 11.04 and Xfce is really a lot faster, compared to regular GNOME in 10.10. It needs a bit of tuning to behave like GNOME (ie. the "favorite apps" part in the panel, ...), but it's worth it in the end...

I'm recommending that my Ubuntu-using friends stick with 10.04 (LTS). It's supported for years to come, and it's now in its fully-stable support cycle so I don't expect any breakages. Everyone else? How To Pause Display?
As many of you know, the Lenovo new design smaller keyboard for consumer class Thinkpads doesn't have the classic "pause" key. I use pause to inspect Linux boot lines that appear on screen. I figure there is an alternative way to pause. I've looked over the keyboard and I can see not way to pause. D...
