Thanks ghasapidis and vlyne.
I'll try both your suggestions when I get my laptop back.

The first thing I would try is the keyboard. (cheaper than a motherboard) The power switch might be sticking. I would offer to sell you one and let you return it for a refund (minus shipping) if it doesn't fix your problem. Send me a pm if you're interested. Thank you very much for the offer. But, ...

T43 won't turn on
Couple weeks ago I started to have this problem. I would push the power button (while the battery is in and power cord attached), and all I was getting was a split second blink of the battery indicator LED, and nothing else. Any subsequent push on the power button wouldn't do anything either. Then I...

Memory is left on in suspend or standby(Fn+F4), thereby not needing to write the Windows state to the HD like hibernation does. If you click Turn Off Computer, you should get Stand By as an option, along with Hibernate if you have it enabled. Ok, thanks. So suspend and stand by are the same things ...

I travel with my thinkpad suspended all the time. ... Since most components other than memory is at powered off state, it's hard to imagine that drive's head is not at parked position. Correct me if I'm wrong but, I think memory is powered off as well. Well ok, it seems like everybody on this threa...

My understanding is that batteries start to deteriorate on the date they are manufactured, correct me if I'm wrong. That is right. According to the power manager, it shows the manufacture date along with the first used date. Does anyone know if the power manager calculates the "design capacity" bas...

My Software Installer still shows "Thinkvantage System Update 2.00" as the latest. I guess I'll just wait until it shows version 3, and then I'll install it. I guess "Lenovo System Update" is the new name for "Thinkvantage System Update". Is that correct? Also, will I need to uninstall SWI after ins...

I have a T43 (see signature) and I got about the same scores as the OP when I installed a beta release couple months ago. The lowest score was 2.0 for my ATI x300 (64MB physical, and 256MB with software) video card. And for that reason I didn't get the Aero. OP doesn't mention any hack or anything t...

I noticed that those xml files contains version information of all the downloaded packages. I had the same fear as you have, I thought deleting...

Where do you think the saving would come from when on 16bit? LCD consumption or GPU consumption? My guess would be the GPU. Color depth basically adjusts how many different shades there are between two different colors, I don't see that would have any effect on the power consumption. As far as I kno...

Hi Allen, I posted some numbers here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=235956#235956 Power manager does not allow you to have a lower difference than 4% between the two numbers. So I kept it at 4%, this was more like a preference. I didn't want to wait too much before it starts to charge s...

Hideous bluetooth system tray icon
I have this ugly bluetooth icon on my system tray. I try to keep as few icons as possible there. To me, since I only have two BT devices, and they are already paired with my TP, this icon has no functionality at all. Allen: 90% and 94% are for when it is on A/C power, to tell TP when to start and stop charging. If you are on batteries you will be discharging it anyways as long as you use it. If what you meant was using the batteries to drain them fully, even when you have access to A/C, I think that will kill th...
