Well yeah things have gotten far more foolproof since then! There are many examples of those sorts of things, such as the earlier floppy and IDE ports not having their notches for the orientation, and the early AT power connectors that if you put the red inside, poof! Yeah, I remember having to look for the little tiny #1 on the controller boards many a time. I never did fry a drive though.
