Next time don't buy the $3 one.
I mean this is just a passive wiring adapter, nothing with a chip or anything complicated like that! If I actually have a DIN cable lying around I would've just made my own adapter! Now what this $3 gave me besides damaging the keyboard and that fuse is exactly that! I literally just cut them in half and do the wiring myself!

Remember the original IBM PC? It had a keyboard port and cassette drive port right next to each other and they were identical DIN ports (yes they were labelled, but the label can wear off). If you plugged the wrong item in - poof!
Well yeah things have gotten far more foolproof since then! There are many examples of those sorts of things, such as the earlier floppy and IDE ports not having their notches for the orientation, and the early AT power connectors that if you put the red inside, poof! Even more extreme example would be how it's easy for you to plug the 486 CPUs the wrong way on certain motherboards!

Yeah, I remember having to look for the little tiny #1 on the controller boards many a time. I never did fry a drive though.

I will however, negotiate with the seller to remove this thing on eBay immediately and give me a refund. If I were to lose a Model M instead of the cheap BenQ keyboard, I would've opened a case straight away!
Opening a case would end up with nothing other than just give you the same refund you will get from the seller anyway. If the seller does not remove the listing, you should report the listing, and the seller to eBay, and also leave negative feedback with explanation, and a negative review of the item if possible (not all items give you an option to leave a review).

Yeah if I burnt my Model M I would be definitely looking into those options without hesitation.
But for now though, I have asked the seller nicely for once and see if he stands up and do the right things. This is a fatal mistake but I am pretty sure seller doesn't exactly have the intention of blowing up Model M's so I will give him one more chance.

I think you focus too much on your Model M. If you have proof that all these adapters are faulty and can do nothing but damage equipment (and from your explanation I think it is the case), then you should report it. I agree with trying the nice approach first, of course, because I assume it was an honest mistake, in which case the seller should act promptly. Do keep us updated if you hear from him...

So I got reply from the seller. The seller issued me full refund no questions asked and sent an apology message. No complaints there then.
I reminded him to either make new adapters of the correct wiring or take the listing down.
Guess losing my BenQ keyboard isn't too bad now that I have full refund and also redid the wiring on the cable he sent so I have a working adapter too. Just I feel like it's a bit of a pity that the BenQ keyboard is a 15 year old new old stock that's brand spankin new!

I hope I'm doing the right thing here...

I purchased an X210 a couple weeks ago in the Marketplace forum from a user "lulujyc," and when the machine arrived, it failed to boot, and I noticed a hole melted through the mylar film on the motherboard, a few inductors near the CPU were chipped (but seemingly functional), and a few other red flags.

The seller was helpful with some troubleshooting tips at first, but I haven't managed to get the machine to boot. The seller insisted that the machine was working fine prior to shipping, and that it cannot be returned for a refund as he's back in China (although I have no problem shipping there), and has gone radio-silent since then.

Not much to be done about it, but perhaps future buyers might want to be aware of that. "Caveat emptor", I suppose.

Edit: I got it to boot, but mPCIe/mSATA, USB, DP, and VGA don't work :( No reply from seller so I'm still kinda sad, but at least it wasn't a total brick!

Just leaving a warning for eBay user "discountonthego"

I purchased a backup P71 last month. 4k, Xeon, 32GB RAM.

Bidding started in the mid $600's, and I was the only bidder. Consequently, I won the laptop and paid immediately.

Seller hemmed and hawed all week over why they could not actually ship the laptop. And then couldn't refund the $$$ that I paid because of some IRS form that eBay was making them fill out.

Told me to call eBay and "talk to them." That isn't really an option.

So I had about $670 held up for a couple of weeks until the sale triggered eBay's estimated arrival date. Then I was able to do a "Item not received" and immediately got refunded by eBay since there was never a tracking number.

Seller is now going to relist the item, so beware.

During that time, I did end up buying another T470p for $250 from a different seller and am pretty happy with that purchase.

I believe that even if you were refunded, you can still leave negative feedback on eBay. It is a little trickier since you need to find the order somewhere in "canceled orders". Unless they changed it.

cdsmicro on ebay is one of the sellers who sends you a different LCD model than purchased. Even though they have US stock.
And they send insulting messages instead of accepting return on that LCD when it has a manufacturer defect.
It's ebay so I'll get refunded inevitably.

It gets worse with cdsmicro...

Ebay had to compel them to provide a return label. They then sent me a doctored label removing the last 2 digits of the tracking number, revealed when USPS scanned the barcode. If I didn't catch this, there would be nothing showing the return delivered that ebay uses as proof to require a refund.

I wonder what they will try next!

edit to add:
They also go by the name laptoppartsforless Store Name "Laptop Parts For Less" out of Philadelphia. Not to be confused with "Laptop Parts for Less" (lowercase for) of New York who is unrelated and a much more honest business.
