Delivery by USPS (& Canada Post) will save you the $75-$90 Customs Clearance Fee imposed by UPS & FedEx.
Canada Post charges a flat fee of either $5.00 or $8.00, plus duties and taxes (if applicable). The courier companies charge the same duties and taxes, but their Customs Clearance Fee can range up to $90.00 per shipment.
Ask your U.S. shipper if he will ship by USPS Global Priority Package instead.
I first found this out the hard way in the early nineties, when I purchased a Northgate Omnikey Ultra keyboard for U.S. $65.00. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS LATER, I was much wiser! ( Still using the keyboard, so in hindsight, it has amoritized well over 16 years).
Just a word to those importing from the U.S. for the first time.
Regards.
Dave
