OK, So I did the silly thing.
5 months ago I replaced the monitor on my W540 without removing the battery and fried the F11 fuse (Could see a faint picture when holding torch against it).
In order to get the laptop running quickly I soldered across it, as I didn't want to take the whole thing apart and was going to replace the fuse later (which I didn't...).
Everything was fine for about 5 months and now the backlight has gone again after leaving the laptop in a bag whilst travelling - I didn't boot it for about a week, then realised the screen was dark.
So I assume this means a new motherboard now? - I am due a new laptop so not the end of the world if it's smoked..
Hope someone can help. Thanks
