[Update]Extending warranty after 30 days in Canada works!
Yesterday, I accidentally spilled milk on my laptop screen (don't ask me how) and it went into the screen. Now I have two streaks at the bottom of the screen that don't look like they will be disappearing anytime soon. My laptop is only 7 years old and I will be entering university next year, living in residence, and planning to use my TP for the next 4 years in University. My current system has a 3 year standard warranty and I need to upgrade to ThinkPad Protection services to cover my milk accident.
The following are the options that I have. If I only upgrade to 3 year TP protection and I have an accidental damage after the 3rd year, I would have to pay another $287.20 to get that extra year since the post-warranty options do not include TP protection. If I upgrade to 4 years TP protection for another $144, then I would be wasting the 1 year extra coverage my credit card company provides for me (service may not be as much as Lenovo), and if I go to 5 years, that would seem excessive as it would be 29% of my original laptop purchase cost.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
All prices in CDN dollars (Multiple price by 0.9 to get approximate US price)
3 Years EasyServ + 3 Years ThinkPad Protection
41C9767 $143.20
4 Years EasyServ + 4 Years ThinkPad Protection
41C9771 $287.20
5 Years EasyServ + 5 Years ThinkPad Protection
41C9772 $467.20

Re: Another Warranty Thread: What warranty upgrade to purcha
Man, that thing will be growing hair out of the slots by the time you are done with it!Hanson wrote:My laptop is only 7 years old and I will be entering university next year, living in residence, and planning to use my TP for the next 4 years in University.
If it was me, I would only upgrade to 3 year TP protection. As it is, I only took the initial 1 year warranty. I was thinking of extending it, but I didn't realize the warranty period started from before I received my laptop. By the time I looked into it, a couple of weeks shy of the anniversary of when I received my new laptop, the warranty had expired. I did not like the terms of the out-of-warranty warranty, so I didn't buy anything.

It mentions nothing about that on the Canadian website.draco2527 wrote:Not sure how it works in Canada! but here you can ONLY purchase TPP during the first thirty days of receiving your laptop (via an authorized reseller, lenovo.com and it must be new)

Actually, it does. the page you linked to is a "Visa" card affinity page that lists offerings available at the time of purchase.Hanson wrote:It mentions nothing about that on the Canadian website.
This is the correct page for after purchase warranty upgrades.
As can be seen, it says (emphasis added): "ThinkPlus® Services for ThinkPads and ThinkPads Accessories
Lenovo ThinkPlus Services are convenient, pre-packaged, part-numbered services that are easy-to-use, affordable, and available in a variety of configurations designed to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes. Each pre-packaged offering comes complete with a well-defined scope of services, including service hours, response times, and service agreement terms and conditions. Enhance the availability of your equipment by upgrading your level of service at the time of product purchase. No matter which option you select, you'll get outstanding service at an exceptional value."
A quick phone call to Lenovo CA will confirm the fact that the Protection Program is only available at the time of purchase.

James

The thing is that I did not order from that page ("ThinkPlus® Services for ThinkPads and ThinkPads Accessories"); I ordered from ThinkPlus® Protection Services for ThinkPads which states nothing about availability at the time of purchase only.JHEM wrote:Actually, it does. the page you linked to is a "Visa" card affinity page that lists offerings available at the time of purchase.Hanson wrote:It mentions nothing about that on the Canadian website.

"No matter how hard you try, it is impossible to predict the unexpected. You know you can count on your limited warranty that comes standard with every new ThinkPad notebook, but what about Life's little accidents; like spilling your coffee on the keyboard or simply dropping it? These accidents are not covered in your standard warranty coverage. Help protect yourself from potentially expensive repair or replacement costs, protect your investment by taking the next step in warranty coverage....Get ThinkPad Protection. Each pre-packaged offering comes complete with a well-defined scope of services, including service hours, response times, and service agreement terms and conditions. "
It mentions nothing about only offered at time of purchase.
And to further back up my claim in case Lenovo rejects my order, on the front of the warranty page:
"Which service coverage is right for me? If your ThinkPad® notebook or ThinkCentre™ desktop system, or ThinkVision™ monitor is still within its original warranty period, then you can upgrade your service with a warranty service upgrade. "

I just spoke to an EasyServ representative to correct my warranty start date, and found out about the ThinkPad Protection warranty. According to him it must be purchased in the first 30 days after the computer purchase.
now: X61, T42p
before: 600E, T23, X20, T40, X40, X31, T60
FS: Travel Bezel, 100GB drive (OEM Lenovo)
before: 600E, T23, X20, T40, X40, X31, T60

It's quite possible that the matter is treated differently in Canada.bri wrote:I just spoke to an EasyServ representative to correct my warranty start date, and found out about the ThinkPad Protection warranty. According to him it must be purchased in the first 30 days after the computer purchase.
Here in the US there are some states where you can't purchase the protection plan at all as they consider it a form of insurance rather than a warranty and require IBM/Lenovo to register as an insurance company in the state.
