Software Inventory Tool
Any tried and true products that this board recommends? I want to re-install the image for my T60p. Prior to doing so I would like to generate a report of all the software that I've installed so I have a plan when re-installing all the goodies.

The Belarc Advisor! Read about it at the link I've provided and download if desired. It's free for personal use. I have it on every laptop I've used since I discovered it many years ago. It is very informative for a free piece.

I just checked my version of jv16 Power Tools which isn't free but it provides a "Software Manager" section that might be of use. I use it (mainly) for the registry cleaner which is top notch.
I also remember SiSoft's Sandra providing a useful inventory too, but I haven't purchased a version for a while so I'm not sure it's still there. I know this is used by others here so they can comment.
That should give you some places to start.

Still just a guy with a room full of stuff I can't use
This probably isn't what you are looking for, but what I have done in the past is use HyperSnap-DX to make screenshots of my desktop. I would take a screenshot of the desktop with it's icons, and I would take another with the All Programs list expanded from the Start Menu. I would save these as .BMP files then print them using the Microsoft Paint program to a color printer.

This should be more than enough for you - gives you a list of software licenses and keys where applicable just in case you can't find the keys. Also it documents hardware details and MS hotfixes installed on the computer. Brilliant piece of software.brainpicker wrote:The Belarc Advisor!
