Now i got two mini pci-e wifi cards, what to do next?

#1 Post by devinfriday » Thu Dec 16, 2021 4:38 am

Hi, i have bought 2 mini pci-e wifi card, an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. The PC they were intended to refuse to boot with both of them, and i have only 2 laptops available to upgrade, one is my T440p but it already has a 7260, the other is a T61 with 4965 (maybe? not sure). Which one do you think i can upgrade with some benefits? Also, i have searched but i didn't find nothing about, what if i put a card like that in a case and convert it into a usb external wifi dongle? Is something like that exist?
TIA.

If you put Middleton's BIOS in that T61, plus remove the Bluetooth module, the AC-7260 will work fine there.
Putting a wifi card in some (not yet existing) casing, to make a "USB-dongle" is unrealistic.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

I forgot to mention that i have Middleton bios on T61.
Is possible to put a 3G WWAN card into a usb case to use it as a 3G modem over usb port, so i was wondering if something exist for a wifi card.
Thanks.

Sorry. I got confused because you mentioned WWAN cards.
There is no equivalent for PCIe-based WLAN cards, sadly.

Just to inform you, the transplant was successful, 7260 with metal adapter fitted well and Rocky Linux autoconfigured it. How much the Bluetooth module and the old wifi card (i think it's a 4965 more or less) can be sold? Thanks.

You're unlikely to find a buyer at this point. But you never know...
X301: SU9600 | 8GB | 1TB | WXGA+
X1C9: 1185G7 | 32GB | 1TB | WUXGA | WWAN
X1Y8: 1365U | 32GB | 1TB | WUXGA
For the sake of ecology I donated all my classic Thinkpads.
