Get a used Type C Dock for other Brand Notebook?

#1 Post by Boy2006 » Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:53 pm

Hi
I saw on ebay there are some Seller who resell refurbed Docks. Thankfully I have a lot of old Thinkpad Power Supply left so that isnt any problem. The main problem is my Displays support only Display Port. And I have 2 of them. I use an Dell Dock who I won in some dell online conference for many device and the work fine.
So how about a Lenovo Dock?
Like 40A9 as an quick research on Ebay are darn cheap. I dont know yet if the support dual Display Port Output or not.
Maybe thats the reason why the sell it so cheap?
Thankss

EDIT:
Does anyone here still own a 40A9? Does the support x2 16:10 Diplay on Display Port or only (as the Manual say) 2x 16:9 = 1920 x 1080?

They support dual Displayport. Not sure whether dual 1920x1200 specifically - pretty sure my monitors back then were 1920x1080. I will try to get one 40A9 and test for you next week.

However, as you may have noticed in the other thread - they are not issue-free. This is the first generation of USB-C docks Lenovo released, and are somewhat finicky, it seems. Maybe that's why they are cheap.

Can you recommend other (used) (Brand) with Dual Displayport Output?
Sure there are new but the cost what I saw ~250€ that is 49€ less what my "Chromebook" (who run Linux right now) cost back then.
:thumbs-UP:

In the German speaking Forum I got the replay that the should support 16:10 to.
So I order the used one. Well lets see how it works. Since its old I hope it support Linux to. :screwy:

So I can confirm it works with an (ex) Chromebook (now Debian) + an Dell Tablet Pc with Win10.
On Both Device I have an Image on my 16:10 HD Displays.
The best think is darn cheap on ebay and I could use my old 90W original Power Brick with an official Adapter from Round to Flat.

For the past 10 days or so I've been using one 40A9 myself with a pair of U2410 1920x1200 displays and a T16 Gen3. No display issues.

A couple of times the USB devices were not detected when PC was turned on (don't remember if it was from power-off or from standby). I needed to disconnect and reconnect the USB-C cable before things started working.

I did not test that (yet) since I use the Laptop who I destroy the internal Accu Connector as an Desktop until i decide if I try to solder on the lead or not. I figure out that the Laptop even support 2x external Display + the Internal :o  .
