T40 major problem...keeps freezing on me.
My T40 started acting up last week and it is getting really frustrating. It all started last Monday when I put in my jump drive and formatted it (I was using it to update the software on my plasma TV), and it froze while doing that. First time it has ever frozen. Now it seems like it freezes constantly. At first I thought it was software related, however when I went to turn on my computer on Thursday the LCD was black (the laptop turned on, however the LCD never went on). I had to turn it off and on about 6 times to get it to work. This afternoon it did the same thing. Anyone ever had these types of issues or have any ideas on what it might be?
The laptop works as normal once it gets into windows, except it freezes regularly and twice has not wanted to turn the lcd on.
BTW the LCD staying blank and not wanting to turn on just happened again, only this time I got an error message with beeps.
1 longer beep followed by 2 short beeps.
Thanks in advance for your help.

According to page 63 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual, the beep code that you describe means that you should check:
1. System board
2. LCD Assembly
3. DIMM
Since the easiest of the three to check is the DIMM, I would reseat your memory and see if that makes a difference. If you have two sticks, then try removing each one separately and alternating them to see if maybe one of the two sticks has gone bad.

thanks for the tip...I did so and I thought I found the culprit. The dimm of 256 under the keyboard, once removed, has made the computer run like normal again for a while.
After a couple of hours it froze again and than the LCD wouldn't come on. Anyone have any ideas on how I can figure out what the issue is?

thanks for the replies guys.
PC Doctor passed all the tests...i unscrewed my keyboard (but didnt pop it out) and now i can type on it fine as long as i dont push down on the sides (so it sounds like that graphic card problem that people were having when they carried their laptops from the corners).
now if it is the motherboard I just have a quick question that hopefully someone can answer. I bought this laptop december of 04 directly from www.ibm.com, so it's almost 2 years old..it only came with a 1 year warranty however. Last spring (about 6-7 months ago) my power plug on my motherboard broke, and I had to pay IBM to put in a brand new motherboard (still pee'd about that), does IBM warranty parts that they put in your computer...or will I have to pay $495 more to fix a computer that I love, but is falling behind the times?
cliff-notes: I got a new motherboard from ibm 7 months ago, my laptop warranty is over, but does ibm warranty the specific parts they fixed?
