Implementing XP-Key in Recovery-CD

Hello,

because I want to put my XP-license-key
(sticker on Thinkpad bottom - T43p)
into my recovery-partition (prefer CD),
I need to know if anybody knows how the crc-checksums in the .CRI-files
are calculated by the command "mverify.exe".

My problem is, is have managed to change the key on the first recovery-CD, but
after I started the recovery and R&R restarted and checks the files
on HD it stops recovering (error-message), and I guess, it is
because the checksum of the image-file (.IMD) in which the key is,
has changed (of course) and so it does not match with the
crc which is written in the corresponding .CRI of the .IMD-File.

I need to calculate it new, but it only seems to be done by
the mverify.exe-routine, and unfortunately it is not an ordinary
crc6,-8,.. or md5,... cheksum.
It is only 2 byte (hex, so 4 Alphanumerics).

The mverify.exe was not easy for me to get, because it was only for a short
moment visible, when R&R was updated in Windows. Afterwards it has been
deleted and vanished in one of the crypted archives.

But the one exe file I saved will not really work properly.

So does anyone has an idea?

I don't understand what you are trying to do or why? You want to create an R&R CD with the COA # slipstreamed so that you don't have to enter it on installation? If that is true, don't bother because the install routine doesn't ask for it.

yes, I know, and I was aware that my request might irritate (and maybe a bad English )

So, yes, I want to sliptream the COA#!

The Reason:

I have ordered 3 different recovery-sets for 4 different (T43p, R50p, R51, T42)
Thinkpads, which I am going to sell accept one.

And I do have the claim, to sell them with intact service-partitions, including diagnostic tools,
and all the comfort at one fingertip, just as they ought to be, the buyer should decide wether to kill the partition or not.

Additionally, after I recovered the service-partition (and the XP) I will format
the XP and install a new one, with up-to-date drivers, patches and service-packs,
and without the common ballast, like Norton, RecordNow, DLA, ....

This XP must have the activation-key from the sticker (COA#), and, in case the buyer
really will use the recovery-function, the recovery-partition must also have the same key

BECAUSE.....I want to keep my recovery-disks and may use them in the future.
But that wouldn't be ok, if the activation-key would be widespread on different Thinkpads this way.

And yes, I could (and will) also do an image with Acronis or something like that, so the key would remain
the same, but as I said, I want the installation the original and consequently way (at least service-tools),
and that means, XP recovery by "Access IBM" has to work consistently
(and if it should only do that just for giving a novice user the opportunity to see the wonder of a magic
sysprep-script-installation ....even if this recovered XP would then be outdated )


And why should I waste an activation-key (there are the one on the laptop and the one on the recovery-set).
(But as I think about it....the key without the sticker is not really a valid license, so the last reason doesn't matter)

So that's the whole, long story.

As I said, I am close to manage it, and the journey is the reward.

Ok, maybe another approach to solving my problem:

does anyone know a way/tool, to get behind the crc-mechanism
just by comparison for instance some of the mverify crc
(many files on the CD have one)
with their corresponding MD5 ?

Can anyone tell me what program to open the IMD file?
