T30 mini dock question
I have a T30 which as most of you know has usb 1.1 ports. My mini dock has usb 2.0 ports. I was wondering if when I'm connected to the dock that my usb will operate at 2.0 or will it default to what is on the computer? If 1.1 then is a pcmcia card the only way to get usb 2.0? Any recommendations on the pcmcia card if that's the way to go? Thanks for your help.
I've been considering the purchase of a USB 2.0 PCMCIA adapter for my T30. From what I've read, it sounds like one equipped with the NEC chipset may be the best. That doesn't necessarily mean they are more expensive, in fact some of the cheapest I've found have the NEC chipset. While it would seem like more is better, especially for the same price, I will likely go with a 2-port rather than a 4-port due to the physical size.Thinkpad Mini Dock User's Guide wrote:If your ThinkPad computer does not support USB 2.0, any attached USB device does not work in USB 2.0 high-speed mode.

Yep, you pretty much have no choice but the PCMCIA USB card.
If you do go this route, pick the one with the NEC chipset since Windows supports it natively and pick one with FireWire too since they cost pretty much the same amount. For some applications, FireFire will give you better performance ( e.g pulling video off a MiniDV or even connecting some external hard drives ).
You can find some of these cards here.
