So, I haven't made a post in a while; just to show that I am active, I might need a little help now. XD
So, my primary ThinkPad is an older IBM ThinkPad T21, I take it everywhere, I absolutely love it. But I became tired of Windows, and decided to put a distro of Linux on it. My choice was Ubuntu, since I have had experience with it before hand. Installation went smoothly, things worked right out of the box, except for one thing---- My sound.
The driver that Ubuntu supplied for my ThinkPad's sound card (Crystal SoundFusion) would only work half of the time. The one way I got it to work temporarily was increasing and decreasing the volume control on Ubuntu, not the ThinkPad itself. But as soon as the processor spikes with activity, the sound driver goes out again. Eventually, I got tired of the problem, and no solution I tried actually worked, I went back to Windows.
Hopefully, one of you ThinkPad lovers out there have had the same problem and have overcome it, if you have, PLEASE TELL ME. I would love to get Ubuntu back on here, and working without any hiccups.
Regards,
IBM

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on IBM ThinkPad T21
Re: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on IBM ThinkPad T21
I'm probably not going to be much help here as I've not run Linux on a T21, but I have used Linux (CrunchBang 9.04) on a 600X for nearly a year. 600X has the same sound card as the T21, so, this ThinkWiki article outlines a couple of known problems with this sound card.
The only problem I encountered with my 600X was the loss of sound after coming out of standby. I never experience the problem you describe, but maybe something there at ThinkWiki will help.

I have consulted that Wiki page before, and no solution they outlined helped my problem, although I may have followed the solution directions inaccurately. I have no idea.

Re: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on IBM ThinkPad T21
I would probably try a different desktop environment(i.e. KDE XFCE), instead of the default GNOME, to see whether that makes any difference. It can be easily configured with Synaptic package manager.
I run ubuntu on a old Dell desktop, and on my Thinkpad T23, i run XandrOS without much problem except suspension/sleep doesn't work properly.
