ThinkPad T21 Reset's BIOS after shutdown
ThinkPad T21 Reset's BIOS after shutdown
Hey guys,
New here, so hopefully this is posted in the right place.
Basically, every time I restart my T21, It makes me go in and set the date and time in the BIOS settings, as it keeps resetting every time the computer shuts down. I know that there is a possibility that my motherboard is trashed, but I'd like to know what I can do to make sure it's not something else. Thanks in advance for any help!
Thank you.

Re: ThinkPad T21 Reset's BIOS after shutdown
Just replace the CMOS battery. Be careful when disconnecting the old one. Remove it gently and slowly and don't just yank it out...or you will tear the connector off of the systemboard. Use a small tool like a fine needle-nose to do it....or possibly a thin screwdriver would help. Just ease that connector out. Another way to approach it is to hold the connector on the systemboard still with a tool and then remove the battery wire. You'll see what I am talking about once you remove the main battery and see the CMOS one.

Re: ThinkPad T21 Reset's BIOS after shutdown
Thanks for your reply! Where can I find the CMOS battery? It's the one under where the laptop battery goes right? With the yellow plastic over it?
Re: ThinkPad T21 Reset's BIOS after shutdown
Thanks. Your awesome haha! Could I take the CMOS battery out of my T30 and put it in the T21 since its missing the hard drive, RAM, etc.? Or would that not work?
Re: ThinkPad T21 Reset's BIOS after shutdown
Yes, the battery should be the same. If it's the original T30 CMOS battery it is most likely very weak as well.
