How many T30s have ever been built?
How many T30s have ever been built?
Hi,
I'd like to know how many T30s have ever been built. Does anybody know how to get market figures for specific Thinkpad models?
Season's greetings,

I counted 80 sub-sets of T30's. For the heck of it, figure a run is 10,000 units. That would give you 800,000 units. I believe that number is low.

80 sub types you've seen or is that what you found in the parts lists and other documentation?jronald wrote:I counted 80 sub-sets of T30's. For the heck of it, figure a run is 10,000 units. That would give you 800,000 units. I believe that number is low.

There's about 30 different keyboard layouts alone, each making a new sub-type. Although not everey localised layout (e.g. Belgian) addresses 10,000 buyers.

I went to the Parts List and skipped the first 4 digits, just counted the last three i.e. -CTO and so forth.

Just be aware that the actual CTO builds are usually custom built varieties in significant quantities for mass orders by corporate customers, which tend not at all to be fitting under any specific last three digit category.jronald wrote:I went to the Parts List and skipped the first 4 digits, just counted the last three i.e. -CTO and so forth.
I think it is next to impossible to even approximately estimate any realistic production figures of any Thinkpad variation.

I figure the number is between 800k and 8m. Betting with that spread I hit the right number!
