How can I tell if I have IBM High rate Wireless Lan Mini PCI

#1 Post by sirzune » Sat Jan 21, 2012 7:23 pm

[SOLVED**]

I downloaded the driver for the IBM High Rate Wireless Lan Mini PCI Combo Card and Bios update. I don't get any indication (in system tray or otherwise) that wireless is capable. How can I tell if it has a card for wireless without opening the unit?
T23 model. Also: what is that slot on the center left side of the laptop?
Thanks

**I remember a neighbor left a D-Link Air Premier AG DWL-AG660 card with me. I figure I should plug it into the slot and it fit. So I downloaded the drivers for it and I was wireless in just a couple of minutes.

Look at the top of the left and right sides of the lid.
If there is a 'ribbed' strip of plastic, your T23 is wireless capable.
Open the rectangular slot in the middle of the bottom to see a wireless card and two antenna wires (or not).
If you see the wires but no matching card, you can put in a wifi card.

But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Thanks for the reply. I'll certainly do that tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find. With the wireless adapter, D-Link, I'm get about 60 Mbps-- certainly close to my 72Mbps on the computer in another room. Actually, this computer is a clients laptop, and I had to clean install XP Pro with SP3. It works fine hard-wired to the internet. Good machine. He'll either have to use a card sticking out of the unit, or tomorrow I'll know if he doesn't. Thanks again.
