T23 needs replacement motherboard I think
T23 needs replacement motherboard I think
Hi All,
I have a T23 which recently stopped working. The problem is that when I turn it on the screen remains black and then nothing else happens. I have tried all the simple things like the HDD, using an external monitor but nothing works so I assume the motherboard has died.
So unless anyone has any suggestions I intend to buy a new motherboard from somewhere like ebay. My question is how easy is it to replace the motherboard and are there any simple walkthrough instructions anywhere on how to do this? Also do I need to go out and buy any special tools to do this?
Thanks in advance for your help
Paul.

Re: T23 needs replacement motherboard I think
Paul,
I purchased an A31 that was advertised as "dead /parts only". The assumption was that it needed a new motherboard. Upon examination, I found that one of the USB ports was a bit "fudged" and one pin was shorting against another. I carefully straightened the pin and then the unit booted up and has been fine ever since.
Check those USB ports.
Best, Frank

K.Eng, thanks for the link this is a fantastic reference document and I will be a great help when I come to having a look inside this Thinkpad.
Frank, thanks for the suggestion I will have a close look at the USB ports when I get to open up the Thinkpad, was going to do it today but it seems i need more than a screwdriver to remove the screws at the rear. Will have to pick up a new tool on Monday(what are the tools for opening those special screws called?)
Thanks
Paul.
