T22 Thinkpad BMS Reset

#1 Post by LexLocatelli » Sat Dec 31, 2022 7:15 pm

Hey folks, I recently replaced the cells in the T22's battery, which is currently charging and discharging just fine. I'm only having issues with the capacity and battery health not actually lining up with the truth. BatteryInfoView is showing the health at 51%, and my battery life indicator in XP doesn't reflect the real capacity remaining at all. At first the numbers were pretty random, but during my last test it hit 0% after 1 hour 45m, and then stayed on at 0% for another hour.

I've tried doing multiple full charge and discharge cycles to no avail. I assume I need to reset the BMS on the battery itself somehow, but I'm at a loss on how to do so. I saw online that touching the battery cell + to the actual + part of the connector that goes into the laptop is supposed to do it, but that just killed one of my boards. I probably just did it wrong, but I'm afraid to keep testing :D The charging indicator on the actual laptop itself also seems confused. After fully charging, I actually get the orange flashing battery light instead of green. Hotplugging the power cable does fix it, but it's still weird.

Any ideas on how to fix any of this? It's not a HUGE issue, because I'm getting a crazy long battery life compared to the original cells (2:45 vs. just 30m on the old ones). But it would be nice to have everything accurate :D
