I'd like to underclock my 1.13GHz T23 slightly to reduce the amount of heat that the machine produces. It will eventually reside in a closet (as a NAS) and ventilation may be limited.
Has anyone played with the Processor settings (Slow, Medium, Fast) in the BIOS (latest version - 1.20)? I set the Processor to "Slow" when plugged in and noticed that the machine ran a bit cooler. However, Win XP shows the processor running at 1.13GHz (this may be an XP issue?). What speed does the processor run (on A/C) when set to "Slow/Med/Fast"? The wiki mentions an 80% reduction in speed when on battery power, but no mention of the 3 settings when on A/C.
Thanks!

I don't personally have one, but have you checked the heatsink for dust buildup? That may help.
Setting the CPU to slow in the BIOS should help keep it on the cool side though.

Looks like the T23 will run SpeedStep just fine:

That said, if you set up a profile to run at battery levels all the time, it will typically run cooler. I would set it up on a some kind of 1/2 tall feet, with a hard surface under it. Plenty of air flow all around.

I had a T23 not too long ago, and I remember running speedstep on it. It would underclock at 600mhz I beleive.
I used a small non installing app call mobmeter.exe where I could quickly check the speed it was running at.
I wonder if you set the cpu speed to slow and used speedstep if the processor would run even slower.
Funny enough, the T42 that I play with now also is underclocked at 600mhz. However, it can turbo at 1.7 and a faster bus and ram speed.....
