Not trying to be funny, but I've spent the best part of 20 minutes scrutinizing every square millimetre of a post I recently made, which at the time was the last in the thread, and couldn't for the life of me see any 'x' in a box. I'm beginning to question my own sanity here...

Looks like regular users are not allowed to delete their own posts.
Only Admins and Mods can do that.

Mine does have the X button, and I'm definitely no moderator much less an admin. Most likely that it appears when a number of conditions are met, like exceeded a certain amount of posts and getting promoted to Junior Member or higher.

Addendum:
Also, the X button doesn't appear immediately: this post doesn't have it, but one post in another thread I made around 7-8 hours ago has it.
