T30 with problems
I received a T30 with some problems, maybe you can help me to repair it...
To power-up i have push power on, all the Leds light up for a second and after a second only one oh them remain lighted and the one with o battery sign on it, then the Lcd inverter starts i can see o blink on the LCD and a pop in speaker...and that's all, no fan, no hdd, no dvd...I push power to shut down, and do this several times on-off until it start and works fine all the day, until i shut it down and makes the same problem, that's why i'm not shut it down and when i'm not using it i close the lid to go to stand by mode...
I tried other RAM's and nothink, i cleaned all he connectors and plugs and nothing.
When it is in dead-mode(the time it doesn't want to start-up) the ATi chipset is more worm than when he is in windows...

If you hold the F1 key while powering on will it let you into BIOS? If you can get into BIOS make sure the HDD is first boot device. It is under startup.

No, when he starts in dead-mode nothing is working, no cpu fan, no hardisk and no beeps
I started one time and was working fan and hardisk but no display, and beep error for memory problems
it might have that common problem of memory slots?

Re: T30 with problems
If you have two memory sticks, mark them #1 and #2 then put just one stick in the left slot and try power. Put #2 in left slot and try power. Put #1 in the right slot and try power. Put #2 in the right slot and try power.

Re: T30 with problems
I tried that, and he starts in random , sometimes with only #1 or #2 in one or another socket, or only with both of them, everytime he start and boots after 10 or 20 times of using power on and then power off repeatedly, simptoms show problems at the sockets of RAM or the capacitors in the chopper zone, but i belive the mainboard gets all the voltages because even when he is in deas-mode i can see a blink on the display and the blacklight is on so the inverter is working...

Re: T30 with problems
On some occasions, a bad CMOS battery can interfere with proper operation.
This is cheap enough to replace.
Also, remove all hard disk, optical disk, RAM, wifi card, modem, bluetooth or whatever you have.
Then try and boot. It should beep 1-3-3-1, indicating no RAM.
If not, you most likely need a new motherboard.

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!
