Video on T30 versus T42

#1 Post by tdlpad » Thu Dec 30, 2010 12:08 pm

Hello. Just wondering if I would see much improvement in full screen video on a T42 versus my present T30?

T30 has 16MB ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 graphics chip.
T42 has several options, depending on model:
* 32MB ATI Mobility RADEON 7500
* 32MB ATI Mobility RADEON 9000
* 64MB ATI Mobility RADEON 9600
* 128MB ATI Mobility FIREGL T2 (only on T42p)

Any T42 GPU is better than the T30 GPU.
But it's not only the GPU rhat makes the difference.
The T42 has improved CPUs and chipset, compared to the T30.
The combination CPU/GPU makes quite a difference.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

I wouldn't upgrade from a T30 to a T40,41 or 42 - only a minimum T43 / R52 Intel. T30 has a "weaker" but more reliable graphics chipset that the T4x's ATI... And the T43/R52 Integ graphics is similar or even better (performancewise) than the T30. And most important, bulletproof.
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400, X200
now: T450, i5, 8g, 250ssd
