T30 wont power on, except from battery (How to resolder dc)
I have a great but old T30 that must have damage to the DC socket. If I mess with the AC adapter enough, I can charge up the battery and the thinkpad will work great, however once its just up to the AC adapter, it doesnt, unless I play with it for 45 mins til I get it in the right spot.
Does anyone how (actually have instructions) on how to resolder a DC jack and / or replace it?
Thanks

Get the HMM, in which this is described with pictures: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 2p1840.pdf
The DC jack sits on the I/O board.

Looking for a T30 DC jack on ebay I find this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-ThinkPad-T3 ... 0616938088
Looks like you just need to unplug the old one (probably held in place with a screw into the yellow plastic or it just snaps in) and plug in a new one, no soldering needed.

The DC jack mounts to the I/O board with one screw. Check to see that the screw is indeed tight. The screw can be accessed on the bottom side of the laptop under the DC port. If the screw is loose the DC jack will make poor contact with the I/O board. If it is tight then consider replacing the jack. Not a difficult job to do.
