Re: BIOS Update 2.09
Summary of changes
Version 79ETC9WW (2.09)
* (New) Support Microsoft Windows Vista.
* (Fix) DOS EMM386.EXE causes system hang or memory key data corruption when the DOS boots from USB memory key.
* (Fix) On a model with an ATI M64 graphics chip, Windows bluescreen occurs intermittently during DVD playback in battery operation.
EDIT - just did the upgrade and see no major changes (considering everything on my system is working fine, I consider that a good thing).

Which file did you try to execute? I got that error when I tried to run the wrong file. Try another exe file in that folder. First window that pops up will ask if you want to update your BIOS, or change your model number.GXCross wrote:Just tried to run the windows version of the BIOS update on my T60 widescreen, and it didn't want to run. Kept complaining about "can't find BIOS update" or something. I figured that meant it probably doesn't work on the widescreen, and didn't try the ISO.

It was the exe specified in the readme.txt and instructions. It did ask if I wanted to update the BIOS or change the model #, but then clicking the Next button gave me the error. I guess I'll wait a bit to see if it's really an update to the widescreen version, or if it was a mistake. The widescreen T60s have a new BIOS numbering scheme.own6volvos wrote: Which file did you try to execute? I got that error when I tried to run the wrong file. Try another exe file in that folder. The new BIOS shows up on the driver download page for the T60 widescreen (mine is 8741-52U). I suspect it's a mistake though.[/quote]
Yes, It's a mistake. If you look further down on the page a BIOS of 1.01 is listed specifically for the Widescreen. That's not the first mistake I've seen on the Widescreen page.

That's too bad, I was hoping they fixed the "screen flicker" problem that has been plaguing me since I got the laptop.zepp wrote: Yes, It's a mistake. BIOS update 2.09
WARNING! DON'T DO THIS UPGRADE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TOO!!!!!!
I have a T60 Type 2623DAU that was suppose to have a compatable Motherboard (Rev 3) to accept BIOS upgrade 2.09 but Noooooo!
Before the upgrade, I had always got occassional BSOD's and was routinely blowing up USB 2.0 Flashcards so I decided it might be time to get the latest BIOS in hopes of fixing some of these problems. It looked to me like folks weren't having any problems with the update and it was fairly stable.
The BIOS update process went as smooth as silk until the end when it asked if I wanted to restart the system. Sure why not! The T60 shutdown normally and came back with the Thinkpad opening screen, fan turns on wide open and thats it. I had to remove the battery and AC cord to turn it off. Now it is literally a black brick. Subsequent power ups only start the fan in low speed but I still have to pull the battery out to turn it off. It never appears to get to the BIOS. If it does, its going into the weeds somewhere. Something really bad has happened.
Lenovo thinks the Motherboard is shot. Since it is a company owned machine, we got the premium warranty and have on-site service. So far, Lenovo support has been really good. Should be out next week to fix it.
This machine has always been a bit flakey. I'm kinda' glad it bit the dust. Maybe now I'll get a new Motherboard that will fix a lot of the annoyances I had with it.

I've been having problems with 2.09, but don't want to risk even more problems with 2.11
Anyone?
