T61 front firewire alternative?

Just took apart a T61 and noticed that the front firewire port was a neat little daughterboard module slotted into the motherboard, and that got me thinking if the module could be replaced with something else? I never use firewire, and an extra USB type A port would be a lot more useful to me.

My googling came up empty, but the module looks so replaceable that it is hard to imagine that it is not meant to be.

Indeed it does. Perhaps Lenovo had plans for it but never executed on them. What was in the same place on the T60?

Infrared port.

Some T61 SKUs didn't have the 1394 option, presumably optional as a cost-saving (revenue generation) option.
