T61 9 cell battery DOA, any suggestions?

I bought a NOS genuine Lenovo 9 cell battery for my T61, and unfortunately, the battery won't charge in either of the T61s I have, I get the fast blinking orange battery indicator light.

I was told that I should check the SMBus info but from what I gather, this is something you can't do with a piece of software on the laptop and requires you use another piece of hardware to accomplish this.

Assuming that method doesn't work, is it possible to re-cell the 9 cell battery for these laptops? I haven't found any specific information on doing it for this particular battery, nor anyone who reported even attempting it and whether they had success or failure doing so.

Is this a 14" wide T61, or a 4:3 or 15.4" T61?

14" wide T61 can share batteries with T400, and 4:3 or 15.4" T61 share with the T500. You may have luck searching for one of those slightly newer batteries.

Otherwise recelling and aftermarket are the remaining solutions.

Try to install the ThinkPad power manager and see what voltage shows up in the battery details. If it is under like 8V chances are it will never charge up again and that would be indeed dead

Have you checked for an aftermarket alternative?
