Win XP Ubuntu and cloning

#1 Post by unicus » Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:58 pm

Hi everyone. For the life of me I can't figure out how to clone my T60P running Win XP and dual boot Ubuntu, its a SSD. Acronis won't work as well as Macrium. I like to experiment with this computer, like I have Netscape 4.79 installed with email dating back to 1999. I want to protect this SSD with a back up one. Someone said you have to delete Ubuntu first for a clone to work. Any advice?

Maybe you need to repair Grub2 on the new SSD: https://www.howtogeek.com/114884/how-to ... wont-boot/

Also see this: https://www.techadvisor.com/article/724 ... tware.html
I have duel boot Win XP Pro and Ubuntu. I hate uBuntu, it won't clone I ithink I need to get rid of uBuntu first.

In that case, delete Ubuntu first, then clone your XP using Macrium Reflect 7.
Then install Linux Mint on the new drive for a dual-boot.

For cloning disks I use Active Disk Image, an old piece of software, but it works well under even Win 10.

It succesfully clones Windows and Linux, and mixed installations. If you'll find this program to buy (or whatever)), there's little trick: when restoring a disk from an image, just uncheck "keep same partitions size and location", to make your clone bootable.

The only way to make bootable media is they make you buy the program.

There's also a 100% free alternative - Clonezilla.

Not as intuitive and easy, but no less powerful.

If you want free and intuitive cloning software, give https://foxclone.com a try.
