ECB69E00-CCCDCCCD Files Created in Root of Every Partition: What Are They and How to Remove?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently noticed some strange files named “ECB69E00-CCCDCCCD” appearing in the root directory of every partition on my hard drive. I’m not sure when they were created, but I suspect they might be related to ThinkVantage Security Client Solution or some background service, though I can’t confirm that.

The main issue is that I’m unable to delete these files—they either show errors or seem to be protected by the system. I’m concerned whether they are harmless system files, leftovers from a program, or something potentially problematic like malware.

Has anyone encountered this before? What exactly are these files, and is it safe to remove them? If so, what’s the proper way to delete them?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. :)

It seems like this was asked before, almost exactly 20 years ago:
viewtopic.php?t=23088

No answers back then, but ThinkVantage Security Client Solution was also brought up as a theory.
These strange file names do not come up in a search and there is no indication of any malware responsible for their creation.

So you are probably correct that ThinkVantage Security Client Solution is the culprit. Do you need / use it? You could try uninstalling it, temporarily or permanently, to confirm or disprove the theory.

Do the files bother you particularly? Are they large?

I've read in various places to use Lenovo Commercial Vantage instead.
Seems to have less problems for most.
(I don't use it).
