x3 questions

My X3 media slice is on the way and i am ordering the accessories on ebay for it. Does the x3 already have a caddy or do i need to purchase that seperately? also, i understand it is capable of taking a 2nd battery. if i were to use the ultrabay as well, could i theoretically have 3 batteries? and how long would life be?

i ended up buying a used x31 on ebay with the following specs:

1.4ghz
768 mbram
40gb hd
warranty until 9/04

i feel it was a good deal for 900, but you all would know better, did i get a good deal?

I use floppy and CD drives that came with my T21 in the X3 media slice and they work fine with my X31. So if you can find those on ebay, they should slip rigt in. I don't know about the battery situation. I just use the one that came with the machine. And as to price, I got a 1.4ghz w/ 256meg 20gig plus X3 with CDRW/DVD drive and 2.8 yr warranty NIB for $1500. I upgraded ram to 1gig and HD to 60gig 7200rpm and have a great machine. If you can find and external (USB) CD drive, then you may not need the X3.

how much battery life did you lose by changing to a 7200rpm drive? was the performance jump large? i would imagine the stock 4200rpm drive being one of the major bottlenecks of the system.

I did not use the original drive long enough to get a sense of battery life, 80% of the time I'm on AC anyway. I suspect you can adjust power management and extend your battery life.

The machine runs noticably faster when using database intensive apps, or even when copying large megabytes of files here and there, backing up the drive, and etc.
