- The power, HDD, standby, etc. lights have stopped working except for the WiFi and Bluetooth lights which still work fine
- On standby mode, opening the lid no longer wakes the computer out of standby

X61s LCD replaced, some lights and lid switch don't work now
X61s LCD replaced, some lights and lid switch don't work now
I recently replaced the Ultralight LCD in my X61s and while the important things work fine, there's a few components that have stopped working:
Re: X61s LCD replaced, some lights and lid switch don't work now
I don't know about "get broken", but the culprit for every issue you describe is the LCD cable.smc wrote:... Did something get broken when installing the LCD?
Regarding the lid open/close detection: find the "dog leg" offshoot from the LCD cable ahead of the cable entering the "top" of the machine, and position the sensing component at the endpoint of that offshoot in its proper detent on the base, so that when the keyboard bezel is installed, the component is visible through the little cutout on the edge of the bezel that was designed to accommodate it.
Re: X61s LCD replaced, some lights and lid switch don't work now
Yep, EOMtp is right the culprit is more than likely the LCD cable. While they look quite robust it seems the wiring traces are easily broken and the 'arms' are easily torn.
I assume you double checked that the snap in connector from the LCD cable to the inverter was correctly aligned and pushed firmly home?

Yes the snap in connector to the inverted is keyed to only go in one way and I figured if it went in wrong the screen or backlight would probably not have turned on to begin with.tim S wrote:Yep, EOMtp is right the culprit is more than likely the LCD cable. Looking at a picture of the cable is it possible I just forgot to connect one of the arms? I am leery of opening things back up for fear of breaking something.
Re: X61s LCD replaced, some lights and lid switch don't work now
The 'arms' on an X60(s)/61(s) LCD cable are as follows. The lowest arm is the lid position sensor and is
common to all LCD cables. Of two 'branches' in the middle of the cable the right branch connects
to the invertor and is common to all. The left branch is for the bluetooth module and is only present in
those laptops that came with bluetooth. Some later models came with this cable whether they had
bluetooth or not.
At the very top of the cable is the thinklight which connects slightly over to the left in the X61(s)
than the X60(s). Because of the Thinklight position these cables are model specific.
In your case the only arm that could cause trouble is the invertor connection. I think that it's the
cable itself that somehow got broken.
