X30x Exploded wallpaper

If you don't want to read, here take it:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

For those who are willing to read:

I have recently gotten an X301 and I have a few thoughts:

1: I'm shocked at just how light it is.
I mean what kind of voodoo magic did David Hill and the design team at Lenovo even put in this thing?
This feels about as light as my T450s with a internal + 3 cell external battery and it has an OPTICAL DRIVE?

2. darn is it slow
Well not snail's pace like Pentium Ms but much slower than the T7500 in my X61.

3. The screen is trash
Sure it's high res but that's all it has. The viewing angles are horrible.
Anyone know of an upgrade path?

4. Lenovo's first try at a "classic" Thinkpad?
  • Full clamshell design unlike other widescreen models
  • Indicator lights only on keyboard
  • Black hinges reminiscent of pre _3x series
  • Color is back on TrackPoint buttons
  • Upward firing speakers on palmrest similar to 760 and 600 series
  • Plus many more minor details

Anyways, I was trying to find wallpapers, specifically the exploded diagrams and I couldn't find any.
So I decided to make one of my own using the diagram from the HMM and Adobe Illustrator.

The link leads to a google drive with a bunch of premade images in the X301's native resolution: 1440x900

I've also linked the illustrator file so if anyone would like to export to a higher res or different aspect ratio, you can.
Also I've linked the Thinkpad logo that I used. (mainly for my own purposes in case I'd like to make more of these)

Nice work... :thumbs-UP:

It's been a long time since I've last owned an X30* series machine, but remember having very mixed feelings about them at the time.

The LCDs were dreadful.

The 1.8" drives were a compromise I wasn't too happy about.

The form factor was perfect for a "on the go" system at the time, at least in my view.

I'm happy to see that someone is still using these, even on a recreational basis... 8)

Thanks

I've actually been daily driving this thing for the past week now, it's not that bad if only a bit slow to start up and load heavier web pages.
Thanks to my P71 and desktop handling any heavy workloads, I can use this for its purpose as an on the go machine with a good keyboard.

I don't really mind the 1.8" drives, mine came with the highest from the factory 256gb Toshiba FDE SSD so it's not that slow.

What I do mind is the screen.
Like I said previously, it has terrible viewing angles.
It also has terrible ghosting going on to the point where text disappears when I scroll.

Although I would never pay the over 2400 price tag to buy it when it was new, the current prices (~$80) aren't bad for such an amazing piece of ThinkPad history.

The palmrest coating has disintegrated on mine though so it doesn't look great.
May be in the market for a clean palmrest or a parts X30x
