Restoring T420 to Original Defaults

I picked up a T420 (7180-AP3) through a local online site with the intent of designating it strictly for ham radio and communications applications.

The former owner, who had upgraded to an SSD and also maxed the memory to full 8GB, never did create a backup set of the original Win 7 Pro OS when he installed Ubuntu as his operating system.

Problem is my programming software for Yaesu and Harris radios as well as my SDR monitoring software is basically designed for Windows so I had hoped to restore the laptop to the original factory values.

Trying to locate a clean copy of the install media has been one major issue, and since Lenovo’s Win 7 support has ceased the recovery sets are not readily available. Trying to download a set of the three .iso files also has been quite a nightmare when using our apartment’s provided wi-fi service, which is down more than it’s up. After trying to complete the downloads over several days, I found that there were 29 corrupt extracted files on Disk 2 alone! Thought it first that it may have been the iso extraction software so I’ve gone through a few DVD’s trying different packages.

Sure would appreciate some hints, guidance, ideas, souces, work=arounds . . . ..
