T500 Windows XP?

Anyone have luck sideloading SATA drivers for loading Windows XP on one of these machines?

I downloaded the recovery CDs from archive.org, but much to my dismay they were for Vista (ugh! Anything but Vista). Maybe someday I'll meet the minium requirements for theterminator93's offer for recovery CDs in the marketplace (happy to share my experience with vintage machines, but as a late comer I don't have a ton of fresh insight), but looking for something else as a stopgap.

Use a GNU/Linux distro and if want Windows XP, use a VM with IDE settings(normally default)
