T400 Windows 98 SE

#1 Post by Buzon de voz » Mon Jul 05, 2021 6:36 am

Hi! I have a thinkpad t400 and i want to experience good old windows 98, but i dont know how the os will handle this hardware, i have:
p8600, 3gb ram, hd3470/GMA 4500MHD and 160gb hdd.
I want to play some games from that era and also some DOS games, im worried about compatibility issues with a hardware so new for that OS.
I want to have as close to original experience as posible, so no emulation or virtualbox. Also i dont have an older laptop and i cant afford a new one (this one is my daily driver), so it have to be compatible with this exact hardware :(
Thanks!

I know you say no emulation, but dosbox will provide a much closer representation of DOS hardware for free. Your system should be more than fast enough to run any DOS game in dosbox very smoothly.

Your biggest problem will be sound drivers, which are almost certainly non-existent and, if they exist for Win95, non-supported in DOS. Video drivers are probably also unavailable for Win95. You could run with generic VGA drivers, but that also won't be a good experience.
