T410 trackpoint/mousepad only work one at a time

Hello to all again, I have saved a T410 that had been sitting in the lost and found at my job for a while now, that was going to end up in landfill - and I have gotten it working again (was completely dead, reinstalled CPU and it came back to life. Had no HDD, RAM or cmos battery).

However after installing multiple OS's (XP, ubuntu and windows 10) I have noticed that the trackpoint and its buttons don't work at all. When I disassemble the palm rest and boot the laptop with the touchpad/fingerprint cable disconnected it suddenly works. But if I boot without the keyboard installed the touchpad also seems to be fully functional on its own. Keeping them both connected results in just 1 working at a time, and disconnecting one results in the other just working on its own.

Upon closer inspection the palmrest touchpad cable seems to be a bit destroyed, 1 or 2 pins look like they're completely missing from the connector itself. Are there any ghetto solutions for this or would I have to buy a new touchpad cable? I'm not sure how the palmrest affects the trackpoint in any way as they're different connectors. I saw another thread like this but I couldn't find it again unfortunately. Would like to have this bad boy fully working again as its nicely optioned

Many Thanks

A faulty touchpad can interfere with the trackpoint, it is known. Whether you can fix it or have to replace it - I don't know.
