Just bought a T510 with i5-540M

#1 Post by ShellieACarlson » Sun Feb 08, 2026 12:29 pm

I just bought a Thinkpad T510 with an i5-540m. It was only 35 bucks and it should be here later this week. Don't know if I should have, but I'm an addict now. Anyway, would upgrading to an i7-640M be worth spending 30 dollars on. I have no idea what the screen resolution is and it's running 4 gig ram. I also has no battery, but I want a 9 cell for my T430 and the battery out of it should fit.
What do you all think.
Thanks,
Shellie :screwy:

In my individual opinion the Pro of this is cyrenaicism, the Con is you are poorer $30, thermal paste, and 30 minutes.

The i7 640M won't even give you 200MHz more than the 540M. Definitely not worth 30 bucks.

To be honest, I can't understand settling for a first gen Core i5/i7 when objectively better ones can be had. :??:

I mean, if you get a T530 you can upgrade it to a quad-core, which you can't do on a T510. Plus the better integrated graphics and USB 3.0.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
