Is this fingerprint sensor or the cable?

Sensor just lives its own life. Connecting and disconnecting all the time. I did look at the cable under microscope, appears to be alright. I did continuity check just in case, also fine. I looked over the sensor, no shorts. Went ahead and reflowed the main chip, just heat it and touch it, no reball. The sensor I did reball. Still, same behavior. Kinda wondering what to replace, the sensor or the cable, at this point. 10 years or so back I did replace upper plastic piece with sensor and cable together. Nowadays market place is kinda poor on parts. For example, cable on ali kinda don't look like the one I have, not sure if it will even work.

cables rarely fail spontaneously. if the cable failed thered be just no function at all.

i'd try to replace the sensor board. multiple other thinkpads use the same sensor board believe. looks to be the same as used in T510 and T420s. looks even to be the same shape as newer style reader sensor board used in T530, W530, T430s, X230.

I personally attest that I have swapped finger reader sensor boards from T430 backwards into T420 and T410 and it worked fine. i only did this because i like the way the T430 reader looks more than the T420/T410 reader. i also went above and beyond to keep a X230 reader in my classic-keeb modded X230, which required keeping X230 palmrest, because X220 reader is a holdover from X201, unique from every other finger reader, and ugly.
