W70*ds and Linux

#1 Post by Plunkyy » Thu Jun 20, 2024 12:50 pm

Hi all,

Just recently got my hands on a W700ds and I'm trying to make it my daily driver. I'm looking for advice on how to get the second screen working well on Linux. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and the second screen was recognized and worked fine, but would not shut off when the lid was closed. I've now installed Arch Linux and the second display will not work at all. There are very few posts online talking about these dual screen variants and Linux so I thought I'd make a thread to see if anyone was able to get them fully working (shuts off when lid is closed, turns on when opened) on Linux or has any ideas on what I should be tinkering with to achieve this. I'm pretty sure the reason the dual screens worked on Linux was it loaded the (now unsupported) proprietary NVIDIA 340 drivers. On my Arch install, I opted for the Nouveau drivers. I'm still on X11 if that matters.

If anyone knows anything potentially useful, please share!
