Problem with repasting R52

#1 Post by derwen » Sat Jan 18, 2025 3:10 pm

Recently I got R52 and wanted to repaste it but when tried to take off cooler but it doesn't want come off.
More precisely the part on graphic chip there is copper squere with black goop what is connected to silver/white plate(not sure is it IHS of graphic chip).
I want to know could I cut black goop with dental string or something (black goop is hard it is hard to cut it with my blade) or is it something that I leave alone becaouse it will be only worse.
Or I should pry under the silver plate and substrate. I'm pretty sure that is the last thing that is between me and taking of motherboard to cleaning.
Here is photo from internet of my cooler

You may be describing the cover or lid of the GPU.

I would not attempt to remove that as it might take the GPU with it.

The process is called delidding, if further research is desired.

oh i understand now what you're describing, i had to remember the last time I was inside a T40/R50 series.

i think that black goop was thermal paste too, once upon a time... Good idea. Godspeed on your endeavor. :thumbs-UP:
