Hi there,
I'm new here so I'm hoping that this post is going in the correct area?... Anyways, I just wanting to know whether anyone has had success in updating their Intel 4965AGN Wi-Fi card to a later generation card? It seems that I may need to update this card due to the router that I'm using and iPhone model that I'm using. I have posted a couple of questions on the Lenovo forum site, but haven't really got much feedback so I thought I might try here...
The links for my concern are here:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T ... -p/5364921
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-L ... -p/5380044
Basically, I can just hook up a cable from the router to the ThinkPad as that seems to work at full Gb speeds but just want to have the ability to hook up to Wi-Fi if need be, at full 300+ speeds depending on Wi-Fi card that can be installed into the ThinkPad.... on a XP setup or even Solaris 10/11... no later version of windows, but later versions of Solaris may happen
Thanks

Re: Updating the R61 Intel 4965AGN wifi card
Welcome to the Thinkpads.com forum.
Don't worry, you're in the right section.
To answer your question: the problem with the R61 (and various Thinkpad models across many generations) is a BIOS whitelist that prevents you from installing non-authorized PCIe WiFi cards. Good thing though, is that there is a modified BIOS that has the WiFi check disabled (or skipped)-- see: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Middleton%27s_BIOS. Do make sure that you download the correct modified BIOS for your R61.
From there you're free to install any card that will fit in the mini-PCIe slot.
