Cloning of W700 (Image backup)
Cloning of W700 (Image backup)
Anyone know what to use for cloning? I want a full image backup and we used Ghost at one point, then switched to acronis true image echo workstation. the latest build installs but Win7 64 bit RTM says it is not compatible. What did they change? the RC ran with a previous version and cloned fine. Any ideas other than using the windows image backup then going back to another drive? Its a 2 step process and more work than I'd like
Re: Cloning of W700 (Image backup)
Use the Acronis boot CD to do the clone.

Re: Cloning of W700 (Image backup)
thanks.. so basically the only problem with acronis is loading the actual software, but once i have the latest version on a different computer and build the bootable cd, the structure itself of windows has not changed and will allow me to clone to another device? i have not done it via the boot before only the full install, sorry for asking the further question but i want to ensure what i spent hours building is safe. thanks again!
Re: Cloning of W700 (Image backup)
I'm in the same boat. I've been using TrueImage Home 10 for years now, and it's worked fine on XP, Vista, and both the Beta and RC builds of Windows 7 x64. Now that I'm running the RTM build, TI 10 will not run and displays the dialog "This program is blocked due to compatibility issues". So I've been doing all of my backups and restorations from the boot CD.
Yes, if the Echo Workstation boot CD works on your hardware then you will be fine. It won't care if you are cloning XP, Vista, or Win 7.
If you want to insure maximum safety of your existing disk, try the imaging method instead of cloning. Create a full-disk image of your existing disk and save it to an external USB hard drive. Remove the current disk and put it aside for safe keeping. Install a new, blank hard disk in your W700. Boot the machine from the Acronis boot CD and restore the image to the new disk. Since the old disk is completely disconnected, you won't risk screwing anything up.
