Commercial windows 7 or lenovo windows 7
Commercial windows 7 or lenovo windows 7
My other post was written too fast and that it wasnt specific enough
I have a t400 with T9600 i think windows vista home premium 32 bit
I have the following options:
I follow the instructions and pay $20 for lenovo to send me a upgrade to windows 7 home premium 32 bit. I assume its going to be preinstalled with a lot of good software but also a lot of bloat ware which is something i don't want.
OR
I install windows 7 64 bit professional which i already have.
my question is what are the disadvantages and advantages of both. what i would REALLY like is a lenovo thinkpad with a clean fresh windows 7 with nothing preinstalled. id like to install all other software and drivers etc myself.
correct my if im wrong but the windows 7 lenovo will send me will come preinstalled with similar stuff that came on my vista.
Lastly, i ask whether it is possible to use my current laptop and upgrade to the windows 7 proffesional rather than the one that lenovo will send me. if so, would it be possible to use the windows 7 lenovo sends me on another laptop? perhaps a desktop?
Thank you!

Re: Commercial windows 7 or lenovo windows 7
Windows Home products have crippled networking. Unless the machine is standalone, only for use in a home and not ever to be connected to another machine, then Home might work. I avoid Windows Home like the plague (and a cursory look at technical forums will support that). For your own sanity, I suggest the Professional version. ... JDH

My preference on any PC I own, wipe the drive clean and put a fresh install of any OS I want to use. Make sure you have the network card drivers available. Once those are installed its a piece of cake to get online and get the rest of the drivers. Just my $.02.
FWIW...the only PC ever purchased that did not come with bloatware was the Dell Vostro 1500 I owned a couple years back.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my W500 and 32 bit on my R61i. I have a technet subscription so had early access. I had a bit of a time getting my dual monitors to work with the pre-release drivers and I haven't checked for new swtichable graphics drivers yet...although I hardly use them I like everything to be spec.....I'm very happy with both set ups.

Lenovo have announced elsewhere that you will get a standard Microsoft Win 7 upgrade disk, as that is all the Microsoft OEM agreement allows them to supply.thnkpdrox wrote:I follow the instructions and pay $20 for lenovo to send me a upgrade to windows 7 home premium 32 bit. A few minutes work with Google will turn up at least two different methods that allow you to do a clean install with an upgrade disk.
I agree with JDH, if you have Win 7 Pro already, install that.thnkpdrox wrote:I install windows 7 64 bit professional which i already have.
Not within the terms of the EULA covering it.thnkpdrox wrote:if so, would it be possible to use the windows 7 lenovo sends me on another laptop? perhaps a desktop?

Lenovo Mark explains it at the below link. It's what Bill said plus you'll get a drivers CD.
